Running: OBHS span athletes to watch

Nathan Hill and Liam Turner know a thing or dual about winning
and a Otago Boys’ High School span have been doing plenty
of it recently.

Hill (16) and Turner (17) showed they are athletes to watch,
following tip performances during a new Otago and
Otago-Southland delegate schools lane and field
championships in Dunedin.

Hill has been in record-breaking form over 1500m, smashing
dual annals in as many weeks.

He started off by destroying a Otago delegate schools
under-16 1500m record by 11sec during a Caledonian Ground three
weeks ago, channel a line in a personal-best 4min 7.36sec,
notwithstanding battling influenza before a race.

He followed it adult with a identical opening during the
Otago-Southland championships a following week, when he won
in 4min 7.76sec. It pennyless Blair Martin’s 25-year-old record
(4min 8.30sec). Martin went on to win countless Otago and
inhabitant middle-distance titles, and also represented New
Zealand in cross-country.

Hill also enjoys cross-country using and is a member of the
Leith club. However, he believes he is improved matched to the
lane and skeleton to hang with a 1500m distance. He also
plays football for Otago Boys’ and a Maori Hill club.
Turner, a 400m and 800m specialist, also showed he is one to
watch.

Coached by Mike Weddell, he won a 400m during a Otago
delegate schools championships and a 800m during the
Otago-Southland delegate schools championships. He is the
Otago delegate schools under-16 400m record holder, after
clocking 51.92sec a year ago.

Turner, who took adult entertainment when he was 9, has been
comparison to run a 400m and 800m in a girl territory during the
Oceania Regional Championships in Tahiti subsequent month. He will
also run a leg of a 4x400m send competition in a group which
includes Taieri’s Sam Gouverneur.

Turner is also a accessible sprinter, and won a 100m, 200m, 400m
and 800m on a same day during a Otago Boys’ championships
progressing this year. However, he realises he can't run them
all if he wants to attain in future.

‘‘At a moment, we will keep my options open. Some people
reckon we will go behind to being a sprinter,” he said.

Turner is also a penetrating rugby player, though is meditative about
giving it adult to combine on entertainment this winter.

Both Turner and Hill will contest during a South Island
delegate schools lane and margin championships in Timaru
